Let's Debate

 Theatre Is Outdated and

Should Be Replaced by Cinema

pros

Juliya Krapivina, 9A

Nowadays more and more people are wondering whether the theaters are outdated. This is due to the rapid spread of information technology and modernization. So today I would like to present you my point of you. Personally I think that theatres are eternal and will never be replaced by cinemas.

1.    Each performance in the theater is unique
The film was shot once and no matter how many times have you   watched it, film will never be other in contrast to the theatrical performance. Each actor brings something of his own to different performances, so you will never see the same performance.

2.         Contemplation of real people
While viewing the presentation, there is an exchange of emotions between the viewer and the actor. The viewer senses everything that happens on the stage, the whole atmosphere and the sensations of the actors. All this man will never get when watching a movie.

3.    No harm to health
All screens, even the newest ones, are harmful. While a living performance doesn’t harm.

So I think that that theaters should  not be replaced by theaters.

Theatre is outdated and should be replaced by cinema. In our days theatre is out of fashion. Now in fashion is cinema. Theatre is enjoyed by people of middle ages. Cinema is enjoyed by teenagers. Today I'd like to say some advantages and disadvantages about the cinema and the theatre. And say what I prefer.
Advantages of the cinema:
Cinema is not expensive and teenagers could go to that place when they want. The second is that cinema can spread our knowledge. Many films tell us about wars about life in the past. The third advantage is that there are no breaks in the movie and you will not forget the film.
Disadvantages of the cinema:
Cinema also can be expensive. For example new blockbuster could cost more than ordinary film. But also it will be cheaper than the theatre.
Advantages of the theatre:
In the theatre may be interesting performances. You can forget about problems and watch interesting performance with gripping plot and amusing acting.
Disadvantages of the theatre:
Theatre is expensive. Many teenagers can't allow them to go to the theatre. In the theatres shows plays, performances and there are not spread our knowledge. The third is that there are breaks and you can forget about theme of the performance.
In conclusion I'd like to say that I prefer cinema but the theatre should not be replaced because the theatre is enjoyed by people of all ages.

pros

Sofia Maksimchik, 9B

Why we are speaking about it? Is this important? Is this necessary?  One should note here that  the obstacle for the development of the theatre as an industry is primarily television and cinema. Why we should leave the house, when so much is shown on television, and the home Internet allows us to choose from a huge number of films that we want to see? And so it seems that the relevance of the theater is falling. Doubtless going to the theater means giving your soul to develop, grow, through inclusion, maximum presence, reflection, searching for answers to various questions. This indicates a desire for the highest, to beauty and perfection. But unfortunately there are too few people who love theatre. I think. We must speak about it.

At first let us consider definitions: theatre is the activity or profession of acting in, producing, directing, or writing plays. And also a play or other activity or presentation considered in terms of its dramatic quality. Cinema is a theatre where films are shown for public entertainment and cinema is the production of films as an art or industry. And replace is to take the place.

So, I have some arguments in favor of the theatre.
Argument №1 - live actors.
It is a well-known fact that the theatre is regarded as the most powerful means of influencing the person because, seeing what was happening on stage, the audience associates themselves with one or another character — however, as in the movie. But there is a huge advantage — the actors play live in front of you. Actually, the theatre is life, there is no second chance (second shot). Thus, the spectator to pass through much more emotion, experiencing and rejoices, constituting a whole with the actor.
Argument №2 – a possibility that was not available to everyone.
For a long time, the theatre was entertainment, available only to a select audience: getting there can few. Although fun it was by no means cheap, matter here was not the cost of the ticket: bad dressed audience in the Hall were not allowed (by the way, here might be useful in this post). It is believed that the theatre and is now an elitist art form. But, in my opinion, some people simply stopped to appreciate Theatre, considering them to be boring (action give them). While the times of Shakespeare, they could become the start of the war. As for Catherine II and other equally famous historical personalities of theatre has been a favorite pastime. So why we are missing an opportunity that many used to have simply not been?
Argument №3 - cultural education.
Theatre called the synthesis of all the Arts (music, architecture, painting and others). A person, especially a child, be sure to find something new and interesting.  Theatre is a school, because moral background, morals, critique of atrocities, admiration for good deeds and brave deeds, which usually contain theatrical productions, promote the formation of aesthetic taste, can help find a solution to personal problem. What to say about the replenishment of vocabulary and the admission of the world literary masterpieces-in our time with this big problem.

In conclusion I’d like to say that theatre is more than just a show. Hardly anyone goes there with nothing better to do. The person who really gets the pleasure of visiting the theater, looks wider. Today we are facing a huge problem of immorality. Cultural values and traditions gradually go to the second, third, fourth plan.

I tried to find a reason to you to visit the theatre. And the theatre, in turn, will give you a lot more reasons to think, to love, to live decently and with proud views considered themselves to be "thinking" people.

Cinema plays a significant role in the modern world. We cannot imagine our live without going to the cinema, watching our favorite movies and favorite actors. But it has its advantages and disadvantages, that is why, there are a lot of disputes.

Speaking about the advantages, I should say that through the films we can find out a lot of new, useful and interesting information. You can see many stories and books without spending a lot of time. While seeing a film you can relax and rest. Thanks to the cinema you can have a wonderful time in a good company. Nowadays you can find any film which satisfies your opinions or interests.  An interesting plot and great actors are the main advantages of any film. Each premiere is a great event, especially if the world-famous actors of our time star in it.

But  there are some disadvantages, for example, you can spend a lot of money going to the cinema. If you see a film at the cinema, you can face different facts which distract your attention. Similarly, watching a film takes a lot of time. Sometimes you are so carried away by the films that simply forget about all important things and plans. Moreover, if you spend lots of time watching films online, it may have a bad influence on your health.

I think we need films, but one should see them in a limited way, otherwise, it might lead to terrible chaos in your life and problems with your health.

Nastya Petyuk, 9A

Hello, dear judges, opponents!

I’m Nastya Petyuk.

Today we speak about theatre and cinema. Our topic is “Theatre is outdated and should be replaced by cinema”

But before we start discussing this topic we must understand why we discuss it.
Nowadays, the theatre is less popular than the cinema. Due to the popularity of television and since the appearance of video, theatre has lost a great deal of its attraction. And some people say that “Theatre is outdated and should be replaced by cinema”. Our team absolutely disagrees with this expression. And now we will try to express our point of view.
Our team has outlined the most important arguments.
1)      Culture
Still, the theatre is an inseparable part of the intellectual life of any country. We can even say that the theatre as an art form reflects the state of society and of the mind of the nation. In every country theatre has its own history, traditions and peculiarities. So if we replace the theater movie, we are destroying part of the culture.
2)      The uniqueness
Each theatrical production is unique and different. Yes, the dialogue can be the same, but it will be a little different, not like at the premiere. Besides, you can watch film then another 100 times, and performance is not. And so it will remain in your memory for a long time, believe me.
3)      The action "here and now"
When you watch the film, you realize that the actors are far on the other side of the screen — and you don't feel a special contact with them. Theater is an another thing! You can hear every step across the stage, their appeal to the audience, laughter or crying. The film will not give you the satisfaction.

Hell

cons

Aliona Orlova, 9B
It is generally agreed today that cinema is the best entertainment when you are bored. Around the world people are watching different movies. Previously, cinema was black-and-white and now it is coloured.

However, cinema is not only an entertainment but also a good way to improve your knowledge. There are many training films which help us to learn more about the Earth and other planets, animals, plants, people, etc.

Nowadays people prefer cinema to reading. This allows them to save time. More than that, progress doesn`t stand still and cinema is improving from year to year that attracts more people in this industry.

Another good thing about it is that scientists can recover events which happened lond ago with the help of cinema. This is a serious contribution to science which will help to learn new facts about the past.

It is a well-known fact that cinema is an easy and effective way to acquire knowledge. Experts emphasize that the commercial cinema influences people of my age greatly. According to Paul G. Gressey`s investigations (Paul G. Gressey, Associate Director, Motion Picture Study, New York University) "Though organized commercially to "sell" entertainment, the motion picture industry dispences a great deal of informal education... The fact remains that the youngest person, because of hi immaturity, is very often more receptive to screen stimuli than the adults are. Made attractive and interest compelling by every device of plot, action, scenery and acting, the photoplay possesses unique pedagogical advantages." Anothersignificant aspects which were mentioned by Mr. Gressey are that young people attend cinema voluntary and that the prestige of the movie stars is also very important.

As for me, the English language is one of my favourite school subjects. Cinema offers me a lot of opportunity to learn more about the Great Britain and other English-speaking countries. What is more, watching films can be useful in terms of language studying. For example, I watched "Shakespeare in Love" in English. I liked this film very much, the plot and the actors are amazing. It was also extremely interesting to learn more about life of the world-famous English poet and playwright.

Cinema also helps me to travel round the Great Britain. Unfortunately I haven`t any opportunity to do it myself, but I hope that some day my dream will come true and I`ll visit London parks and gardens, Oxford, Cambridge, Stradford-upon-Avon and other British places of interst.

In conclusion of my essay I`d like to mention the fact that the information we get from cinema differs from one we get from texts. Cinema deals with our emotions, develops our ability to summarize knowledge.
Pros:
 · Movies are the most accessible kind of art:
* The movie is replicable without loss of quality.
 * Many people see the film easier than reading a book.
 * The cinema has excellent logistics.
 * The movie tickets are cheap. Morning and afternoon sessions.
 * God save torrents. · For a short time of the existence of the cinema, a decent number of great films and absolutely masterpieces were created. We do not even know about many and do not have time to track them.
There are pleasant exceptions when the film is better than a book or is its worthy alternative.
•  The movie is a great way to switch, unload the head, cheer up.
• Even stupid movies are useful. For example, during periods of overload at work.
 • Films form. For example, they show how people live in other countries, in the layers of society and lived in other epochs. The movie is the most powerful stimulator of emotions among the arts.
• A talented film can turn your view of the world or things. • "Thanks to the movie people have become more beautiful." We learned how well men and women can look and try to match. Some miracle - computer graphics. Now in the movie convincingly look any tales, superheroes, fantasy and fantasy•
Theatre - too extensive and multi-faceted concept that the short answer to highlight the pros and cons of this phenomenon.
I do not really like theater, so I will only say minuses. Cons: lack of acting school, technology, inability to get into character, out of character, to overcome their complexes, fears, etc., spend their own money on the staging of the play, and in the absence of income from the theater, the lack of financial incentive to attract new actors in the company, and this implies that the theater for potential and current colleagues can not be a priority.

pros

Korneeva Margarita, 9 A

Many teenagers today are keen on going to the the cinema, not to the theatre.

I don't agree that the cinema has more artistic potential in any way. I feel that the cinema is more convenient, modern, special effects are brilliant and acting is usually good, too. You say that people are more immersed in the cinema but I believe that the live performance and inclusion of the audience at the theatre makes more affect on people's souls. It is much harder to get emotions across to a cinema audience than on the stage, because on the stage you see and feel everything as you are part of the performance. Today many famous actors refuse to star in films. They say, that money does not matter for real actors. Acting in the theatre they feel the audience, see the feelings and emotions of real people. Performances at the theatre are lively, the actor has to change himself into another person. Being a star of a film actor see only camera, other facilities for making films. It is impossible for the actor to see the reaction to his playing. Every person after the performance will be under impression.Of course you are right that the cinema can have more hi tec animation and that was interesting but that is increasingly becoming boring for the audience. The theatre doesn't rely on this it relys on good quality acting to carry the performance, not effects. The theatre don't need lots of effects because the performance is visibly live where as the cinema need to make their audience believe that it is real. However, if you want effects then there are many theatres that do them. Flying motor bikes, cars, fireworks, a range of lights and all sorts. The theatre can do special effects. Theatre has been successful for thousands of years so how can you doubt the theatre now after it has survived that long? It is expensive to put on a show but nowhere near as expensive as making a film. Film gives millions to those who already has watched it. But performance on the stage is always shot as a small film and is always translated on different TV programmes. The film is the same at every cinema, while the performance on the stage is always unique. That's why I believe that theatre will never be replaced by the cinema.

Dmitryi Matach, 9A

My topic today is “The theatre is outdated and should be replaced by cinema”. First of all, I should say why it is important. Nowadays, cinema is extremely popular with people all over the world. Some people even say that cinema is absolutely perfect and we have no need in theatres. So, we should sort off and choose – should we give theatres the right the right to live or not.

Also I should make some definitions. The theatre is a building, part of a building, or outdoor area for housing dramatic presentations, stage entertainments, or motion-picture shows. To be outdated is to be put out of date; be antiquated or obsolete. Replace is to assume the former role, position, or function of; substitute for (a person or thing). Cinema is a motion-picture theatre.
And now I may go to our arguments. I fully disagree with this topic and here are the arguments I prepared.
The first argument is about the impotance of the theatre as a sanctuary of different arts: actor playing, music, painting and so on.It is a place, were you can enjoy all of them. It cultivates good cultural values which is important in our life. Theatres perform plays written by genius of literature. These plays are full of tips how to live properly, how to be honest, brave, successful and etc. They are designed to improve the culture of the audience, whereas a lot of films are designed to give as much money as they can. Directors of such films have no need in culture – they want only to get money. So, the cultural level of their films is much lower. Because of this actors have no need to play as good as they can – they are interested to play as audience like – without too difficult philosophy, with silly jokes and so on. For example, Bernard Show wrote that only one genius – Charlie Chaplin – came out of the cinema.Compare it with hundreds of genius who came out ofthe theatre, and you will understood the difference between the cultural level of each of these arts.
The second argument is about feelings. A lot of people will be against replacing because the cinema can`t give them so much feelings as the theatre can. Because when we watch a play we see an actor plays in reality whereas a film is only a group of picture.
The third argument is about public opinion. The theatre is a real symbol of high cultural level. If someone visits theatres, people think that he or she is clever, well-educated and polite. For example, you may invite yourgirlfriend to the theatre. It will help you to show her, that you are couth and have a good taste.
In conclusion, I would like to say that the theatre plays an important role in our life and we have no need to replace it by cinemas.

For more than a century, since the appearance of cinema between actors, journalists, critics and ordinary people, there have been debates about theatre and cinema. Some believe that theatre is better, others prefer cinema. There are performances that are remembered for a long time, there is the same movie with world recognition. And there is much in  common in  these kinds of  art. But both are needed by man. Today it is considered that cinema is the best fight against boredom. People all over the world watch different films. Nowadays the theatre is less popular than cinema. The theatre lost some of its appeal due to the easy availability of films at its discretion. In addition, theatre tickets, especially in good theaters, are very expensive. So we can say that visiting the famous theatre has become a luxury. Yet theatre is an integral part of the intellectual life of any country. One could even say that theatre as an art reflects the state of society and the minds of the nation. In each country the theatre has its own history, traditions and characteristics. I do not think that the theatre is outdated, in my opinion it simply lost its relevance. Now few of the teenagers can be seen at the theatre, but during the release of some blockbusters you can see crowded halls. Now there are various genres of cinema: historical, intellectual, travel, comedy, horror and others. Cinema helps us to develop. I believe that cinema is more relevant and more accessible in our time than theatre.

pros

Victoria Lebedeva, 9B

I think that theatre is better than cinema because:

·        THE ACTION "HERE AND NOW"
When you watch the film, you realize that the actors are far, on the other side of the screen — and a special contact with them you don't feel. Another thing theater! You can hear every step across the stage, their appeal to the audience, laughter or crying. The film will not give you the enjoy .

·        The  SCENERY
Nowadays most of the movies half of which consists of computer graphics. Wanted a forest with unicorns — with the help of special programs has drawn to itself all that is necessary and not necessary. In theatre there are people who make all the scenery and trying to create an atmosphere. It's  amazing!

·        HOLIDAY  ATMOSPHERE
Every trip to the theater associated with some holiday. Believe me, almost every girl has a special dress "out". Now imagine a room full of girls in fancy dresses with beautiful hairstyles. The beauty of same!

·        The UNIQUENESS
Each theatrical production is unique and different. Yes, the dialogue can be the same, but it will be a little different, not like at the premiere. Besides, you can reconsider then another 100 times, and performance is not. And so it will remain in your memory for a long time, believe me.

·        ACTING
If you compare how the same actor plays in the film and in the play — it will be like two different people. In theatrical productions always more emotion, more expression! And only one takes.

·        A SENSE OF UNITY
You can come to a performance one, but you will not have the feeling that you are sitting alone. You'll laugh and the whole room will laugh with you. You try to hold back the tears at the sad moment and the rest of the audience will sob along with you.

·        VARIETY
I admit, the movie too is different. But! The theater is such a variety! The ballet based on Pushkin, a Comedy by Chekhov, puppetry, Opera, installations without words and music and a whole shitload of genres! Everyone will find something to your taste!

cons

Dmitriev Alexander , 9V
In taking the affirmative  I have some concessions: I don't think the theatre should be abolished or that no one should ever see a play. I agree with you on many of the things you said in your first post about the values and merits to theater. However, I do think cinema is a more accessible, artistically potent, and logistically rational artistic medium.

First, the accessibility: you yourself hinted at the fact that way more people like the movies than theater, but you didn't get the why quite right. It's because of the fact that, with cinema, the dialogue and acting is generally easier (eg compare Interstellar with Shakespeare), and there's also not the difficulty of having to look at the stage from a certain angle, which (I'm sure theater goers can attest to this) almost always will make at least one or two scenes of the play not really visible to you, because the blocking's off or just because the action's happening on the other side. So it's more accessible in terms of dialogue and set-visibility.

Second, and most important of my 3 arguments, is the artistic potential of cinema relative to theater. In a word, cinema and movies have MORE potential for aesthetic merit and variation than theater and plays, because there are certain limitations you get when doing it in the flesh on a stage, live, as opposed to on the screen, for which the pre-produced movie has way more time and care into being made, can have computer animation, more immersive (IMMERSION IS A BIG POINT) music and setting, perfect blocking (the camera just needs to view in differently), etc. Plus, with theater, forget sci fi movies -- Interstellar could NEVER be adapted to the stage! (I can expand on this the most important point in later speeches).

Finally, the logistics, both the cost for the viewer (as you said, more for theater), AND the fact that it's incredibly expensive to put on a serious professional play-production every single night, while movies almost always make up what they cost, and cinema costs are less. Additionally, there are way more things that could go wrong with the set, or an actor getting sick the night before the show, with theater, while for a movie all you need to do is put in the DVD disk. In my opinion, cinema better than theatre.

pros

Angelina Tutina, 9V

If you remember your friends, 85% will at least prefer cinema to the theater. I want to relax, laugh, not to strain the brain in simple terms, nauseating melodramas for this very thing. Is this the first sign of degradation? Just do not bother yourself? We put everything on the education system and the state, but we must start with ourselves. "The difference between theater and cinema is that you are shown in the cinema, but in the theater you are watching"
I love the theater for the fact that it was there that left the living emotions. When what you see on the TV screen is embodied on the stage, you get completely different emotions, much stronger. The theater helps to remember that there is something better than TV and chips. He can heal wounds, and can increase pain. So do not say that this is just a theater
Nowadays, most of the films are made up of computer graphics. I wanted a forest with unicorns - with the help of special programs I painted everything I needed. In the theater, there are special people who make all the scenery and try to immerse you in this atmosphere with your head. It is excellent!
When you watch a film, you understand that the actors are far away - on the other side of the screen - and you do not feel any special contact with them. Another thing is theater! You hear their every step on the stage, their appeals to the audience, a loud laugh or crying. The film does not give you such pleasure.               What do you choose?

cons

Eldar Mitskevich,9 V
I love the experience and think there is nothing better than the thrill of a live performance. I think that theatre is being replaced because of the younger generation not being taken there and also thinking that it isn't cool to do, this puts them off. Also they think that they have to be of a certain class to go to the theatre which they don't and they are put off by that as well. I think it is vital that the theatre keeps going because it is such an important part of our culture. It isn't outdated it is modern and evolving every day. It is much more famous than any film director could ever be. Cinema is a recorded performance, edited and crafted with a degree of perfection which potentially creates the same set of emotions as many times it is viewed in the familiar environment. Cinema is convenient, packaged well and easily consumable. Cinema brings you closer to the event, without straining your eyes or ears, giving you the maximum details possible, sometimes more than what you can get even with the naked eyes. Theatre is a live performance that is in progress and due to human error factor  there is always a degree of fluctuation in the performance. Two performances of the same play are never the same. Theatre is not packaged well, not as well as cinema. You need to reach a specific venue on time to be able to catch a show. Theatre keeps you at a distance, always demanding you to remain alert with your senses, if you miss a moment, or a dialogue, there is no way you can rewind it, and the next performance might have a different effect.

pros

Vladislav Zhilinskiy,  9 A

Cinema and theatre are two mediums of art which possess similar elements such as theatrics and acting. There are also variations between the two art forms. Both theater and film plays require performers who are known as actors. These actors perform scenes by following written scripts. The difference between the two is particularly on how they present their performance to their audiences. A filmed performance is edited and recorded before being shown to the screen audience. A theatre performance, on the other hand, is shown live, that is on a one to one basis to viewers.
Many teenagers today are keen on going to the cinema  not to the theatre. I feel that the cinema is more convenient, modern, special effects are brilliant and acting is usually good, too. Since theatre has elements of reality, individuals who see real performances have a more tendency of believing, arguing, realizing and reacting on social, political and realistic aspects of the performance. Theatre represents a more believable element of view whereby, ideas are created, arguments are presented, and reactions are collected from the direct viewers of the action, with disregard to artful or artistic techniques of production. In addition, theatre does not only exist for the sake of art. Rather, it is practically used as a personification of truth as well as a social change agent. The film is the same in every movie theater, while the performance on the stage is always unique. Comparing screen actors to stage actors, screen actors endeavor to represent the authenticity of human emotions. I believe that theatre will never be replaced by the cinema.

The issue of our debate was :
Are Computer Games Good or Bad for Teenagers?

Let's Debate :

Should teenagers have mobile phone?

Alina Savchik, 8A
Advantages of mobile phones
Mobile phone is one of the most often used tools. I think all people in our world use mobile phones. But mobile phones have disadvantages and  advantages. And now I'd like to tell you some of its advantages.
At first mobile phone is a good tool for communication. You can chat with your friends in all places you are. Also you can write a very important thing in SMS or in MMS. The second thing is that mobile phone can help you with your school project or with any subject at your school. Also mobile phone can save your life. For example, your walk in your town and suddenly a criminal attacks you. If you have a chance you can phone police or your family and ask them to save you. Also one of advantages of using mobile phones is that you can surf  the Internet, listen to music and make other things.
So mobile phone is a very important tool in our life. And I think nobody can live without mobile phones.

Sofia Maksimchik, 8B

The Cons of Giving a Mobile Phone to a Teenage:

1) Huge bills. The main reason why parents balk at handing over a mobile phone to a teenager is that they fear being the unhappy recipient of a huge monthly bill. Having a good phone plan will help, but your teenager can still go over their monthly data, minute, and texting limits, which will cost you.
2) Cost of replacement. A lot of teenagers are irresponsible. Perhaps your teenager loses things left and right, and an expensive mobile phone will be no exception. So do you really want to fork out for a new iPhone and discover that your little darling has lost it?
3) Upgrades. Most teenagers are always on the lookout for the newest and coolest phone and phone accessories. This means that although they might be delighted with the new mobile phone you buy them for Christmas, two months later it’s now ‘old’ and ‘so not cool’. Unfortunately, you will then need to invest in a newer phone and accessories or face a campaign of sulking for months.
4) Limited Attention Span. Conversation around the dinner table tends to be rather limited when a teenager is in possession of a mobile phone. Instead of intelligent answers to questions, all you are likely to get are a few grunts and the sight of a face peering intently at a small screen. That and lots of buzzing sounds indicating incoming text messages and Facebook alerts.
5) Finding the Right Mobile Phone for a Teenager
You could just chance it and choose the first phone you see, or you could play it safe and ask your teenager what phone they actually want. The latter approach is probably best, as you don’t want to pay good money for a new mobile phone only for your gift to be treated with absolute contempt.
To sum it up, I want to ask why there is a need of phones for teens. What they actually do with phones. Nowadays there is no child in this area who are not addicted to phones. Simply phones ruin their future. So teenagers do not really need to have a mobile phone.

Advantages of using mobile phones
by teenagers
Today mobile phone has become popular to the most of people since it is very convenient. According to a 2008 study by the Pew Research Center, 75 per cent of teenagers ages 12 to 17 own a mobile phone. Teenagers use their mobile phones for daily communication (chats, social nets, usual talking etc.). Although mobile phones may distract in schools, there are many advantages to teenagers keeping and using their mobile phones – among them a number of educational and informational smartphone applications and the ability to pinpoint a missing teenager's location via GPS tracking.
1.Mobile Phones can be an Aid in Emergency Situations
One of the biggest advantages to a teenager having a mobile phone is the ability to call an emergency service in case of an accident. Emergency agencies also support the use of mobile phones during an emergency by urging people to add the letters ICE (for "in case of emergency") in front of certain names in their mobile phone directory to designate who should be called in case of an emergency. Any new phones also include GPS location technology, allowing parents to pinpoint the location of their teens or to locate lost or stolen phones.
2. Mobile Phones can be a Mean to Connect
Smartphones allow teenagers to keep in touch not only with their friends, but also with family members, schools and emergency services. Facebook and other social media applications allow for instant updates on a teenager's status, and mobile phones have a revolution of a long-distance communication by including long-distance calling options in their service plans. The ability to send instant text messages is an added advantage, though it should be avoided while driving. According to the Pew Research Center's 2008 study, an estimated 88 per cent of teenage mobile phones users use their phones to connect through text messaging.
3. Mobile Phones can be Wellness and Educational Tool
Smartphones enable teenagers and college students alike to download course lectures, lesson plans and other applications designed to aid in education. Many applications provide books in digital format, for example Kindle, while other applications, such as the USA Today or the New York Times app, condense every aspect of the print newspaper so it fits in the palm of a teenager's hand. In addition, a number of informational and educational podcasts, as well as classes recorded in podcast format, are available for instant download to most smartphones.
4.Mobile phones are less expensive
It is also worth noting that telephone is much less expensive than other communication process.

Thus, I believe that despite many disadvantages of smartphones, teenagers still need to have mobile phones.

Should teenagers have mobile phones?
Firstly, mobile phones   can damage your eyes. If you regularly use your phone for several years, it can cause sleep disturbance, memory deterioration. Secondly, mobile phone can negatively affect the reproductive system, especially the male. Thirdly, mobile phone can also increase the temperature of the brain, with the constant use of mobile phone. You can’t talk on the phone for more than three minutes, because it has a bad effect on your health. The long use of mobile phone leads to headaches.
To sum up, the main disadvantage of mobile phones is their harmful influence on people’s health.

Vladislav Zhilinsky, 8A

Almost everyone has a mobile phone these days. Mobile phones have completely changed our life. You can call, send text messages, read emails, play games and also read. It is obvious that the mobile phone is one of the best inventions of this century. Living without mobile phones is a very difficult task today as we are so used to it. There are many advantages of  using mobile phones, for example:
·        Whereever we are we feel secured just because we have a mobile phone with us and that helps us to call our loved ones when needed or in case of emergency.
·        With the advent of mobile phones, we are able to keep in touch with our family and pals.
·        The next main advantage of a mobile phone is the ability to capture every single moment and to treasure it.
·        The facility to access Internet is another main feature which has attracted many buyers.
·        A main advantage of mobile phones is the ability to send and receive SMS.
·        Using mobile phones can do everything from start to booking the ticket. Everywhere, even filling the application form, we need to record your mobile phone number.
·        The facility of MMS (Multimedia Messaging Service) enables one to send messages with pictures as well.

DISADVANTAGES OF MOBILE PHONES

1.     HUMAN  INTERACTION:

The mobile phone makes a person dull and gloomy and as well as craves a path for less human interaction. People will start ignoring others and will be more interested in mobile phones.  It’s now been a fact that younger generations have better interaction with mobile phones than with people.
2.     ACCIDENTS:

The most common reason for the accident happening is due to mobile phones. During driving vehicles or walking down the road people suddenly forget the surroundings and this leads to accidents.
3.     PRIVACY AND SECURITY:

The security must be checked twice before storing any crucial information in the mobile phones. The hackers may intend to steal any information in the phone. Also, if the mobile gets lost the risk can’t be taken to lose the details in the phone. Hence, it’s always a dangerous zone to store anything in the mobile phone.

Egor Pushudzan, 8A

Nowadays one of the most common thing is a mobile phone. It has advantages and disadvantages like all the other things. But I would like to tell you about advantages of mobile phone.
Firstly, we can talk to people who are far away from you. It's more easily than visit someone to say: "How are you?"  Secondly, we have access to the Internet anywhere and anytime. Thirdly, we can give information to others, and this can help others and even save somebody’s life. These days mobile phones make our life easier for us.

Egor Parhanovich, 8B

Around the harm of a mobile phone for the body goes a lot of controversy. Mobile phones are accused of developing brain tumors, as well as phones are harmful because it emits radiation, activity decreases, the brain is irradiated with microwaves, promotes the appearance of a cancerous tumor, so the phone can cause adverse changes in the state of the central nervous and cardiovascular systems. Sitting in the phone can begin to hurt your head, and even the phone is impaired by vision and because of this people start to contact lenses or glasses, as the phone slows down mental activity, even phones cause insomnia. The phones are also harmful to children, they start to sit in them and do not let them out of their hands because of this, teens also have poor eyesight and mental problems.

Margarita Korneeva, 8A

One of the most popular means of communication is a mobile phone. Today every person has a mobile in the pocket. We cannot imagine our life without it. A day without a phone is a strange day.  Some people are afraid of spending even an hour without their mobile phone.
In my opinion the life with such a friend as a mobile phone has a lot of advantages.
The main advantage of using the mobile phone is a possibility of calling any person you need.
Most of my mobile phones have the Internet. The Internet in the phone helps us to chat with anybody where and when we like. Using a phone we can be near our friends without using a computer or other facilities.
A phone doesn't let us feel lonely.
А telephone helps not to carry a large bag with us. In a small mobile there is a clock, a calendar, a piece of paper to write on, a pedometer, a camera, a map.
Our mobile can remind us what things to do.
Telephone is a good help during the emergency.
Our mobile helps us to wake up in time.
With the use of different functions we can keep in touch with people far away.
Different games make us happy when we have nothing to do.
We can keep a lot of information, documents and photos inside of our mobile.
A small phone can be used instead of a large library.
So, I think that mobile phone has more advantages than disadvantages. The main thing is to use it correctly.

Dokutko Nadya , 8 “B”

Should teenagers have mobile phones?
We are becoming more and more dependent on mobile phones as these small and sleek devices are multi-functional gadgets that help in our day-to-day tasks. On the other hand, teenagers become lazier and lazier, because they would better stay at home in front of their computer than go somewhere. Also the big amount of information they have every day makes them indifferent to amazing things. The teenagers are not fascinated with the beauty of nature or art so much, because they have already seen it. The Internet can show everything from Van Gogh paintings to the polar light, so young people don’t need to travel or visit museums to see something unusual. As a result, it is very difficult to surprise teenager, because the computer screen has already show and explain everything.
These gadgets literally steal their childhood. Teens, for example, spend so much time in front of the monitor that they forget to socialize with their friends face-to-face. They also get back pain and poor eye sight after spending hours with the mobiles.   Those pupils, who get easily distracted, can use the Internet during the lessons to watch something inappropriate or to play useless games.
People spend less time bonding with their family and friends.

People just contact through phone and become too lazy to meet outside.
People spend lots and lots of money buying the latest model.

Matach Dmitriy, 8A

Our topic today is “Should teenagers have mobile phones”. Why are we talking about it?  As all of you know, mobile phones play an extremely important role in everybody’s life. It is the most popular mean of communication. It is cheap, easy and convenient. But some people say that teenagers shouldn’t have mobile phones. So, let’s make a point in this question. And now we want to prove you that teenagers should and even have to have mobile phones. Let’s start.
And our first argument is about safety. Mobile phones can make teen’s lives much more safely. Why? Because they can get in touch with someone they need immediately. For example, they may quickly call the police, an ambulance or a fire brigade. If they losses their way in the forest, they may be found much easier. So, mobile phones can help teenagers to stay safe and sound.
Our next argument is about convenience. Nowadays, mobile phones may be used not only for calls. Most of them have cameras. So, you needn’t carry a camera everywhere with you to make a photo. Also, most of the newest mobile phones are like small computers – you can surf the Net, do online-shopping, listen to music, watch a film… and so on. You needn’t to carry a computer, an MP3 player and a TV – this all gadgets are in small mobile phone. And it saves teen’s time – he may read a book, do his homework sitting in the bus or walking in the park. So, mobile phones can save a lot of teen’s time and can be really helpful.
Our third argument is about communication. With mobile phone it is much easier to get in touch with someone. Teens can communicate with their friends and parents. Imagine such situation: a teenager leaved his home and gets on the bus. Suddenly his mother phones – he forgot his sports uniform. He comes back home to get it. And without a phone?
So, mobile phones are very useful for teenagers and they should have them.

Skritskaya Ariana, 8B

Most teens have mobile phones and a lot of them are hooked on them. Is this good or bad?
However, mobile phones can damage your eyes, distract you from real life, lead to headache and much more.
When the child has been sitting in the phone for a long time he gets dependence on the phone, he becomes closed, nervous, his whole world is reduced to a mobile phone.
However, teens should use phones sensibly.

Let's debate :

" Social Nets Bring More Harm than Good"

pros

  Yulia Krapivina, 8A
Firstly, what is social nets? Social nets are websites that bring people together to talk, share ideas and interests, or make new friends. This type of collaboration and sharing is known as social media.
Harm - causing spoilage, damage anything, or anyone.
Good - its ability to satisfy some human need.
Now I want to prove that social networks do more harm than good:
1.     The Internet has many factual errors compared to other sources of media, as the information posted do not go through as many checks as newspaper articles or books do, and anyone can easily create a blog and spread misinformation. The information ,which is available on the Internet, could be false.
2.     The Internet is a threat to everyone’s privacy. Most websites ask for information from users and store it. Some of this information (user surfing activities and preferences) are commercially valuable Image (See comic above), which could increase the incentives for hackers to attack and steal such information from firms that have insecure databases.
3.     You can choose any identity you want when you are online. Many people hide behind profiles. They start making nasty remarks on public forums or chat rooms. They would never say these things in real life. Even though other people can try to stop them from this behavior, their warnings are not as effective as a warning from someone you know very well, like a friend, a parent or a teacher. The internet’s anonymity allows them to show sides of themselves that, for good reasons, they normally wouldn’t have shown. This harms everyone.
4.     Many people are just addicted to the internet. They can’t stop browsing, they are hooked on gaming and they spend too much time indoors. Instead of going out for a walk or play outside, they sit behind their computers for hours. A sad consequence of the addiction is that they are so used to high speed information by just clicking on the next link that they can no longer appreciate a good book, or a nice conversation with a friend. By failing to take exercise they become fat and unhealthy. Their family life suffers and their only relationships are online – they can’t cope in the real world.
5.     Since the nineties, instant messaging and emailing has been used to extract passwords, bank account details or credit card numbers. This phenomenon is called phishing. A phisher uses professional-looking websites and profiles, and tens of thousands of people have lost hundreds of thousands of dollars to phishers. If we could better control who contacts us, this would not have happened on such a large scale.

So all these facts prove that social networks do more harm than good.

cons

Pavel Tiunchik, 8B
Hello judges, opponents and timekeeper. I’m the 1st speaker of the negative team. As we all know in today’s debates we’ll be discussing Social Networks.
Why are we talking about this issue? Well, as we all know, computers and other various gadgets are very popular and this popularity keeps growing bigger and bigger. And so is popularity of Social Networks. For example, if Facebook had become a country, it would have the second biggest population between all the countries.
The topic of our discussion is “Social Networks bring more harm than good”. Firstly, I’d like to explain the definitions . According to Wikipedia’s info, a social network is a social structure made up of a set of social actors (such as individuals or organizations), sets of dyadic ties, and other social interactions between actors. According to dictionary.com:
to bring is to carry, convey, conduct, or cause (someone or something) to come with, to, or toward the speaker;
good is profit or advantage, worth, benefit.
According to merriam-webster.com.:
harm is physical or mental damage.
So, when we say “Social Networks bring more harm than good”, we mean “Social structures made up of sets of social actors (such as individuals or organizations), sets of dyadic ties, and other social interactions between actors carry more physical or mental damage than profit or advantage, worth, benefit”. My team completely disagrees with this statement and that’s why:
1.     Social nets bring more good than harm, because they make easier communication between people from different parts of the world. Social Networks are the fastest way of finding the required person and telling him or her information that you want to say. A Social Network account can be really useful if you need to communicate with a person from another country. It is a really good way of saving money in comparison with using your phone because calling mid-country calls are pretty expensive and the Internet is a quite cheap resource nowadays.
2.     Social nets bring more good than harm, because they give a good opportunity to find yourself a mate. “What do you mean?” you may ask. Social Networks are an excellent way of finding people who have the same interests as you do. For example, if you’re keen on jogging, like listening to music or play sports, you can easily find yourself someone with the same interests, ask for advice, reach an agreement to meet in person, hang out.
3.     Social nets bring more good than harm, because you are always in touch with what’s happening in the world. Social Networks are a revolution in speed of spreading information. Nowadays a lot of news organizations establish partnerships with Social Networks for joint gathering and spreading news. You can always be informed just by checking your account’s news page.
In conclusion, I’d like to say that if you haven’t tried using Social Networks, I highly recommend you to do it. From where my team stands, the real conclusion of this debate is that Social Networks indeed bring more  good than harm.

pros

Olga Rudoman, 8A
Every day, thousands of people are logging on to social networking websites. Some play games, some chat with friends, and some post updates about their lives, but one thing that users may not realize is the effect that social media is having on society. Websites like Facebook and Twitter affect our lives negatively, positively, and a lot more than we think. We all have our different causes for liking social media, but we dont always realize the important effects they are having in our lives.
Why am I saying that social network brings more harm than good? First and foremost, at social networking site, some people use fake information to meet new friends. They often use fake profile picture and personal information to cheat others so that they could become more and more friends in social network sites. Besides, we usually can notice there are many advertisement of online business in every site. Some of them are with fake information are used to scam the ignorance people to buy their items. You will realise that already being cheated by them after you bought their items or you won’t even get your item after u make the payment.
With the constant use of these social technologies, less people are communicating in person. Many people are becoming more isolated due to the lack of personal interaction.
With so many teens using social networking, it has become easier to target one another. Cyber bullying is a form of bullying that is only done through the web and other technologies. Social networks make it worse for the victims. Bullying is difficult in person and even harsher over the internet. When cruel comments are posted on an individual’s page, anyone can see them. However, on the networks no one is there to witness the attack. This makes it harder for a victim to ask for help. The bully has an easier job insulting the other because there is no threat of getting caught by a close adult. These kinds of social attacks are harmful. All types of bullying are wrong, though cyber bullying might be the worst yet. The victims are vulnerable online and the insults made towards them deadlier because “computers mask faces and the majority of insults, threats, and taunting go on without repercussion. There often is no make-up or apologies, because no one witnesses the harmful effect the words may carry”.Teenagers must understand that bullying is always wrong. It does not matter if the victim cannot see them; it is still immoral and disrespectful. Social sites should be used to communicate with each other but not to torment each other in the comfort of one’s own home.
Although many people around the world use social networking, it should only be used as a tool. Social networking aids long distance communication greatly but there must be a stopping point. It cannot become our main form of communication and interaction. There are positives to this new technology but nowhere do these positives outweigh the negatives. If we continue overusing the aid of these sites, then it will keep effecting our communication, self-expression, bullying, isolation, friendship and humanity in negative ways. There is nothing that can substitute for personal interaction. Social networking is the problem and we must eliminate its overuse .
The constant use of this kind of technology is harmful to us as a whole and to our humanity.

Advantages of Social Nets

1.     Staying connected
The main purpose of social nets is to be able to stay connected to friends and families in today’s changing world. You can renew old friendships, share family photos, and special events in your life with just about everyone you know at the same time.

2.      Finding people with common interests
Social nets is also a great way to meet new people. You can seek out groups that are focused towards your interests and hobbies and connect with local people that share the same interests.

3.     Information spreads incredibly fast
Breaking news and other important information can spread like wildfire on social nets. Important things like storm information, or missing children are all communicated and taken seriously very quickly.

4.     Helps to catch and convict criminals
People often do not think of what they post in social nets. Pictures of themselves doing illegal things, or crimes they have committed are all things that break the law.

5.     Opportunities for businesses
Business owners and other types of professional organizations have been able to          connect with customers, sell their products. There are lots of businesses out there           that thrive almost on social nets and wouldn't even be able to operate without it.

6.     Gives shy people an Outlet
Communication doesn’t come naturally to many people. If someone is very reserved or shy in their normal day to day life, social networking can be an outlet for them to share their ideas and thoughts with other people in a comfortable environment.

Social network is a website that brings people together to talk, share ideas and interest, or make new friends.

Nowadays social networking site has become the popular sites used by most teenagers and as well as individuals. A social networking sites such as Facebook, MySpace and Friendster are used to share similar interests. Whereas social networking sites such as Twitter and LinkedIn are used by business people to help advertise their business and helping other business people. To have a social networking site the users need to create a public profile within that website that have online. Basically these social sites are able to post personal information, photograph, videos, and comments. These social networking sites can be describe as community based website, where users can form a relationship with others people who have the same network or interest, having private chat rooms, online discussions forum and other opportunity they have online. The attractiveness of using social network will keep growing and the population of users will keep growing anonymously.
First of all, the best reason for having a profile on social networking site gives people the chance to stay connected no matter how far they are. This  also helps people to keep themselves up to date with their friends or  families. Therefore, using a social network also helps people to find their old friends. Social nets can be seen as the most popular technology in the modern life. Its facilities are applied for many aspects of life such as studying and working. I think social nets brings more harm than good.

The major reason supporting for this issue is that effect of using computer on health probems when we are on social nets. People usually use the Internet and they spend more time on sitting in front of computers. As a result, they can get eyes problems or pain back. In addition, with Internet addicts, they can get mental problems because of abusing using the Internet. In some countries, serisous cases caused by using computer for a long time has been happened. For example, in Korea, a man died after playing games for 5 hours.

Another important reason is that social nets can bring the risk of insecurity. In the modern life, people tend to use many security programs to protect their information. It means that they must prepare for preventing unexpected trespass. However, they still are attacked by someone through internet security faults. Consequently, people can get personal troubles such as losing their control even or their important information is stolen.

So, social nets brings more harm than good!

Everyone says that social networks are harmful, but in my opinion there are many advantages and I am now about to tell them.

1) Social Nets allow us to keep in touch with friends and family who live in other cities, view their photos and videos and leave your comments.

2) Social Nets Help us to be on line communication, because calls to other city or country are very expensive.

3) Social Netslways help us to be aware of the events taking place in the city.

4) Social Nets remind us of our friends' birthdays ... Sometimes, it is a must, as  it quite takes off from the head.

Social network is a website that brings people together to talk, share ideas and interests, or make new friends. This type of collaboration and sharing is known as social media.
What is harm? Many vulnerable adults have to rely on others to help them with basic day-to-day living. Whilst the majority have excellent care provision, some are at risk of harm. This could be due to another person, or people, deliberately taking advantage of the adult. But it could also be the adult who is unintentionally putting themself at risk, simply because they don’t have the right level of support in place.
The first reason to agree for why social networking brings more harm than good ,such as the fact is  language problem by shorten spelling in a social networking. New words entering common use but not yet part of mainstream language are called neologisms . For example , when referring to the social network itself, Twitter as a noun should always be capitalized. In verb form, “to tweet” is the act of posting content to Twitter, but tweet is also used as a noun when referring to the posted content.
The second reason to agree for why social networking brings more harm than good, the fact is sharing personal information to another person’s in social networking. When a person’s share information online, they need to understand the potential risks, and they need to be wary of what they share and with whom. Attackers may use social networking services to spread malicious code, compromise users’computers, or access personal information about a user’s identity, location, contact information, and personal or professional relationships. The person’s may also unintentionally reveal information to unauthorized individuals by performing certain actions.

To begin with that this topic is relevant because a huge number of people surf the Net. Also this applies to children and to adults. It is true that Internet can bring harm but our team denies that social nets bring more harm than good.

Let us consider our definitions:
“Harm” – understand how physical harm as well as spiritual harm and intelligent damage.
“Good” – means those advantages that social nets can bring.

Finally let us consider our arguments:
Social nets bring more good than harm because they offer quick search.
In social nets, you can easily, without problems find the right person, the necessary information as well as easy to find like-minded people. Moreover it can be done by pressing a few keys.
One argument in support of good is that social nets offer simple communication and information exchange.
Clear that each of us has a mobile phone and we can exchange information by sending sms and mms messages. But it takes a considerable amount of money. Doubtless more convenient, faster and most important more profitable send messages in the net.
What is more with Internet you can create your own range of interests.
That is to subscribe to the news of communities and groups, to make certain purchases and even to find a job.
Another good thing about social nets is that with social nets you can receive reminders on time.
On time receive reminders about the holidays, whether the City Day, the anniversary of a school friend or your neighbor's birthday party. And having received a reminder, here is send a nice sticker on the photo or greeting card. It is necessary because all people are very busy now and often, in all this hustle and bustle, we can forget about any dates or events.

In conclusion social nets bring more benefits than harm. All that is necessary of you is proper use and self-control.

Hello!
I’m the first speaker of the approval team. Our topic is «Social Nets bring more Harm than Good».
Why are we talking about it? We don`t imagine our live without the Internet. We can find all necessary information there. We use popular services and sources every day. One of the most popular source is social nets. Everyone knows that the Internet has become very important in our life, and now we can’t imagine our life without visiting our pages in social nets at least once a week. Social nets are platforms for people’s remote communication,  exchange of different types of information: text messages, music, photo and video content. The most popular with the young people are social nets, such as Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, Vkontakte and so on. On one hand, it is good because we can chat with a cousin that lives in another town, or former classmates with whom we can’t find time to meet… We can recover relations with the people, we have alredy forgotten. And all these things  we can do without leaving home. This was one side of the coin. Unfortunately, there is another one, which is not so bright. On the other hand, psychologists and psychiatrists of the world ring alarm bells: social networking addiction too often becomes the cause of serious mental and nervous disorders, such as depression, social isolation, autism, and even suicide attempts of teenagers and young people. However, the effect of social nets on the person worries scientists from around the world more and more. The results of their scientific research are quite disappointing. Let’s try to understand what is bad concerning social nets. To my mind, social networking sites can be both useful and dangerous depending on who and how uses them. As for me, I think that social nets are a great danger for modern society.
And we want to try to analyze their disadvantages.
And before we move to our arguments, let’s explain some words in our topic.
What is a social net?
At first, word «social nets». «Social nets» is a «type of Internet service, in which the user publishes any information about yourself (such as a school or university, where he studied musical preferences, interests, photos, etc.), and then use the search to these preferences can find a «kindred souls» and communicate with them». It is an Internet site, that gives us a chance to support various contacts, keep friendly relationships with classmates, aquentances. More functional social nets allow to watch photos and videofilms, to listen to music and so on. There is a possibility to enter different interesting groups. There exist social nets connecting people according to a general interest, for example, computer games players are combained into a social net.
The next is «harm». It is «action that interferes with the evolutionary development». The third is «good». According to the dictionary of Ushakov it is
« positive, beneficial effects, good result».
Now let’s present our arguments.   Let me introduce my arguments.
1. Firstly, people have a certain dependence on online social nets. They need to constantly check: whether they have increased their rating, who has rated their photos, and who has added as his new virtual friend.
2. Secondly, people wean off live communication and get more adapted to the virtual one. They express their emotions through "smiles", and that is the most terrible, they allow themselves too much greater freedom and irresponsibility for their words.
3. Thirdly, people sitting in front of screens or using their devices to talk "online" waste much time which could be spent with much use. They could go out with their friends, walk in fresh air, and not spoil their eyesight in front of computer monitors. They might work, and, in fact, it isn’t so difficult to start a new acquaintance jogging in the park...
4. For a great number of children and teenagers social nets today have almost completely substituted real life. Some of them spend so much time online that the distinction between life and virtual reality for them becomes blurred. As a result, children suffer from the lack of live communication, though they even don’t realize it. It inevitably causes mental disorders, influences their health and spirits, and prevents their normal socialization.
5. Another major problem associated with social networking sites is leakage of information. Posting any personal information, you can never know for sure where it will reemerge. Anyone can use your personal photos, and in most cases you cannot prevent it. Even if you think that your personal page is protected with a safe password, you are mistaken, because good hackers can break it at one stroke.
6. Moreover, apart from useful content, any social network contains tons of useless, hazardous and dangerous information, which is easily accessible to children. Violence, erotic, propaganda of drugs and other forbidden content is regularly deleted by moderators, but it appears again too quickly for them to cope with it.
7.    Social Net take time. Time is the most valuable resource. And we often spend it on all sorts of nonsense. Of course, we need to relax and to have fun too. But if we get stuck in social net at the expense of something important and useful, the harm is obvious.
8.  Social Net is addictive. And you will not notice how it happens. Just all of a sudden you'll be without internet or VK again breaks – and then you get a feeling and craving. While it may not get a feeling – if you still sucked enough. In any case, sooner or later the use of social networking becomes a habit, and the inability to realize the habitual action causes discomfort. Yes, social net provide freedom – the freedom to communicate, receive and exchange information – but at the same time take away this freedom. By the way, the problem of young people depending on social net is particularly acute.
9.     Social Net is deprived of communication. To communicate on the net is much easier than in the real world. Many of us are afraid to get out of this cozy cocoon. Gradually turning into a domestic social phobia and sociopaths, depriving themselves of the joy of live communication. And what else has cons of social net? Yes, for every taste and color! For example, you have written something important, and your partner does not answer because of employment. All – a nightmare – you are ignored! Maybe someone does not put you like? That is a tragedy! Begins to accumulate resentment ... I guess something like that had each of us.
The nets limit us in surrounding space. We stop to see real people, to feel real time, to realise the reality as it is. We prefer to change real communication into virtual one. We check up our e-mails every minute, recollect about friends` birthdays only when we see the mark on the screen. Even little children are fond of printing. They like it more than writing or reading.
So, summing it up, I’d like to say that social networking sites could be rather useful if all the people used them for their intended purpose – for communicating, searching for friends and sharing information with them. Also, to my mind, caring parents should limit their children’s access to social media, and regularly check up their actions on the Internet. Otherwise, social networks can make a real harm to children’s and teenagers’ minds.
In conclusion, I would like to stress that social networks really occupy an important place in the life of most modern people, but the question is: how many times a day does a person communicate virtually and doesn’t it replace real communication? If you read and respond to these questions with “yes", then you have nothing to worry about, but if otherwise… I personally advise you: disconnect from all chats at least for a couple of hours and go for a walk… It will be great! Listen to birds singing, feel the spring!

Now social networks  are very popular among people around the world, especially teenagers. Actually... social networks such as Facebook, MySpace and Twitter are names which are well familiar to any of us.

There are advantages and disadvantages of social networks.

I consider that  advantages are more than disadvantages :

You can communicate with members of your family from different countries.

Сommunication in social networks is very convenient and cheap.

You can share your thoughts with large audience.

You can share your music and photos

Purchase and sale of things through social networks are carried out.

You learn a lot of new and interesting information.

I’m the first speaker of the positive team. Our topic is “Social Nets bring more Harm than Good”.

And why do we speak about it? As all of you know, social nets are becoming more and more popular, especially between teenagers and the youth. Most of teenagers even cannot live without it. Some psyhologists say that nowadays we can see a new part of the Internet addiction – a social nets addiction. And it is terrible. Others say that there is no such addiction, and welcome growing of popularity of social nets. So, in this moment it is one of the most discussed topics in the world.

And before I will go to our arguments, I want to present our definitions. The first one is social nets. It means “a social structure made up of a set of social actors sets of dyadic ties, and other social interactions between actors”. The next one is “harm”. It is “Physical or psychological damage or injury”. The last one is “good”. It means “something that is good”.

 So, let’s introduce our arguments.

Our first argument is about safety. We think that social nets are one of the roots of crime. What do we want to say? Let’s look in statistics. For example, almost 63% of Internet crimes falls on social nets (by statistics of the International Court of Justice). Types of crime may be very different. For example, nowadays terrorists (especially from Islam State) use social nets to propagandize their extremistic ideas and recruit new people. It really works and the police almost cannot do something. They arrest one-two Islamists whereas they have already recruited dozens of new terrorists! It is really terrible. And all it happens because of social nets! But not only terrorists use social nets to commit crime. For example, nets are very useful for kidnappers. It is very easy to become acquainted with, for example, a teenager, invite him somewhere and capture him. Adults may be more careful, but nowadays  almost all teenagers and even children have their own pages in social nets. According to  the statistics of the International Court of Justice not less than 21% of kidnappers commit crime using social nets. So this situation is not very good. And, of cause, there are a lot of other dangers in social nets. As I have mentioned before, there are a lot of teenagers and children in social nets. And all of you know that censorship in such nets is almost absent. So, a child can easily see and find information that is not for his age and that can influence on the weak child’s psyhe.

So, we showed you that social nets bring a lot of danger.

And the next our argument will be the psyche of the younger generation. A lot of psyhologists nowadays say that social nets destroy teenager’s mind. One of the most important problem is that social nets destroy communicative skills. As B. F. Skinner, one of the most famous psyhologists said, in social nets teenagers needn’t some most important communicative skills, these skills don’t work in the Internet, so they don’t develop. As Skinner said, this “computer isolation” will be one of the biggest problems of humanity. And because teenagers haven’t got communicative skills, it isn’t pleasant for them to communicate in the reality. So, they “fall into their computers” and became addicted. According to the statistics of the United States Department of Health and Human Services, almost 69% of American teenagers say that they cannot imagine their life without social nets, 24% say that they cannot live without them.

So, social nets are a social evil, and the faster we will destroy it, the better our life will be.
